Some of you may have read my article on how the city now plans to widen the Newport Road-215 interchange before building the Holland Road overpass. If not, you can read it here.
This is the exact opposite of what some of our council candidates campaigned on. Mayor Scott Mann was one of the more vocal advocates of getting the Holland overpass done ASAP.
In this recent letter, he explains why the plans have changed:
Image may be NSFW.Some residents have asked why the Newport Road interchange project will be completed before the Holland Road overpass. The answer is simply logistics.
The Newport Road interchange project is nearly ready to begin, with funding in place that would be lost if it’s delayed.
The Holland Road overpass is in the beginning stages of the development cycle (which typically takes five years). The Holland Road overpass is fully funded and is moving full-speed ahead through the preliminary design phase.
Once the environmental review is complete and the plans and specifications are ready, the project will go to bid and construction is estimated to begin in spring 2016.
Overall, this is an ambitious capital improvement program for any city, much less a newly formed one like Menifee. Your leaders are dedicated to reducing traffic congestion; improving infrastructure that is important to bring in new businesses, retail outlets and amenities and improving the quality of life for Menifee residents.
Thank you for your patience and please excuse our dust as we work to make Menifee an even better place to call home.
